Why

Why was a Savior necessary? Why would He not be born in royalty? Why did His physical life end in a blaze of glory? Why? We’re good at questions. We don’t always listen to the answers… Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on December 25, 2016, based on Genesis 3:14–15, Isaiah 9:6–7, Luke 2:8–12, and Revelation 1:12–17.

Genesis 3:14–15 NIV
So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock

    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
 And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

Isaiah 9:6–7 NIV
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

Luke 2:8–12 NIV
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Revelation 1:12–17 NIV
I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

Creating a Fear-Free Zone

Fear is not of God. (Fear of God, as mentioned in the Bible, is reverential awe of God.) Whatever controls one dimension of our being, becomes commander over us. How can we create fear-free zones? Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on December 18, 2016, with key Scripture Romans 8:15.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” —Romans 8:15 NKJV

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 3

God has allowed us to go through some trials, so we can gain strength. That’s when we learn first-hand that He is our healer and deliverer. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on December 11, 2016, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24. Due to technical difficulty, only 11 minutes of the message was recorded.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. —Galatians 5:19–24

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 2

Before the fruit comes, the Word has to be planted, watered and nurtured. The fruit of the Spirit becomes evident in our lives, when our hearts have been transformed, and able to reproduce and bring forth fruit from the Word-seed. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on December 4, 2016, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24.

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 1

The first message in a mini-series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Today’s message focuses on the first three fruits: Love, Joy, and Peace. Godly love is not a feeling, it’s an attitude. The Holy Spirit first plants the seed of love after our regeneration. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on November 27, 2016, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24.

Effectual, Fervent Prayer

This is a season when all of God’s children need to seek Him constantly and consistently, and be in one accord. We move the hand of God to act on our behalf through effective, fervent prayer. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on November 6, 2016, with key Scripture James 5:16b.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” —James 5:16b KJV

The Suddenly God

Sometimes it feels like we are “waiting on God” for a long time, so much so that we may be tempted to give up on the good thing God has planned for us. Jesus told the disciples to stay in the city until the promised gift came. When God suddenly invades the mundane, we can count on change. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on November 6, 2016, with key Scripture Acts 2:2.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. —Acts 2:2 NKJV
