Heart Conditions, Part 3

How will we know the condition of our heart? Analyze the symptoms. That is the purpose of this series. We have to make sure God’s word transfers from our mind to our heart. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on June 25, 2017 for more about building a healthy spiritual heart. Key verses from Luke 8:4–15.

Luke 8:4–15 NKJV:
8:4 And when a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?”
10 And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that

‘Seeing they may not see,
And hearing they may not understand.’

11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. 14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. 15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

Heart Conditions, Part 2: Rocky Soil

Not every heart is prepared to receive the word of the living God. This applies to everyone, including those who believe in God. Unprepared hearts in believers stunts spiritual growth toward maturity. We need to know how to break up the hard rocky soil, and transform it, so we can become fruit-bearers. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on June 18, 2017 for understanding and remedy. Key verses from Mark 4.

Mark 4:1–9, 13–20 NKJV:
4:1 And again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching:
“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it.Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Heart Conditions, Part 1: The Wayside

The Wayside has had no preparation for planting. We must continually feed our souls so that God’s word is in our spirit. Hardened soil, the hardening of our heart-soil, happens not only to unbelievers but also to believers. What causes wayside hardness of heart? Preoccupation with other things; lack of fellowships with God our Father; and prayerlessness. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on June 11, 2017 for understanding and remedy. Key verse from Matthew 13:4.

Matthew 13:1–9 NKJV:
13:1 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

Unforgiveness

A heart hardened by unforgiveness will not receive answer to prayer. Mountain-moving faith and forgiveness are spoken of in the same context (Mark chapter 11). It takes divine strength to let go of sinful offenses against us. It is not a sign of weakness to forgive. Be aware that unforgiveness can be a precursor to resentfulness, repressed and expressed anger, criticism, guilt, and holding grudges. Don’t hold on to those negative emotions! Learn what God has for you in this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on May 28, 2017.

Mark 11:22–26 AMP:
22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. 23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. 25 Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others]. 26 [“But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”]

Matters of the Heart, Part 3

Cleansing our hearts is a major task we’ve been given. God is not going to force us. He has given us every means to do his will.

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8 NKJV

This message, delivered by Dr. Dowdy of Lion of Judah Worship Center on May 17, 2015, is based on this word in 1 Samuel 16. Be blessed!
