Walking in the Spirit

Believers are called to live a different life, a life led by the Spirit of God! What does that mean? Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on May 21, 2017, from key verse Galatians 5:16.

Galatians 5:16–18 NIV:
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 4

Are you a fruit-bearer? Would you like to be? This is all about maturity, the shedding of carnality. Today’s message looks at Faith, Gentleness, and Self-Control. Faith not only performs miracles, it also gives us an extra-boost in times of need. Gentleness is humility. It reveals strength, not weakness. Self-control involves self-denial, controlling of appetites. Self-control makes right choices. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 8, 2017, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24.

Galatians 5:19–24, The Message:
It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.
This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.
But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified.

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 3b

God has allowed us to go through some trials, so we can gain strength. That’s when we learn first-hand that He is our healer and deliverer. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 1, 2017, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24. This message supplements the previous message from December 11, which was cut-off due to technical difficulty.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. —Galatians 5:19–24

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 2

Before the fruit comes, the Word has to be planted, watered and nurtured. The fruit of the Spirit becomes evident in our lives, when our hearts have been transformed, and able to reproduce and bring forth fruit from the Word-seed. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on December 4, 2016, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24.

The Fruit of the Spirit, Part 1

The first message in a mini-series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Today’s message focuses on the first three fruits: Love, Joy, and Peace. Godly love is not a feeling, it’s an attitude. The Holy Spirit first plants the seed of love after our regeneration. Listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on November 27, 2016, with key Scripture Galatians 5:19–24.
