The Power of Fear

Fear brings torment. (Job 3:25) When you are fearful, anxious, and stressed out, you feel it and it negatively affects you. It’s tormenting. That’s why so many people use substances to get away from the torment. Fear arises and wages war against us. One of the greatest hindrances to operating in faith is fear. A believer cannot operate in faith and fear at the same time. Get the Word of Faith in your heart and you will not be overcome by fear. Here are some words that you can hold onto Psalms 23:24, 56:3, 27:1, 112:7; Luke 12:32; Isaiah 55:24, 41:10. These are scriptures that can be used as medicine against fear.

Fear will negatively affect our faith. If our faith doesn’t grow, our prayers will not reach their full potential. We are to become prayer farmers, feeding and clothing those in need, through Phil. 4:6–7 and 1 Tim. 1:7. We have been given the authority to override fear. We have been delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Jesus Christ the righteous. Fear delivers us into bondage. (Romans 8:15.)

Great fear is an opportunity to bring forth great faith. Whenever a situation arises that is producing great fear, pray that God will replace that fear with great faith, in the name of Jesus. These important points are explained in more detail in this message, delivered by Dr. Dowdy on Feb. 2, 2020.

Job 3:25–26  NKJV
For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me,
And what I dreaded has happened to me.
I am not at ease, nor am I quiet;
I have no rest, for trouble comes.

Job 3:25–26  AMP
“For the thing which I greatly fear comes upon me,
And that of which I am afraid has come upon me.
I am not at ease, nor am I quiet,
And I am not at rest, and yet trouble still comes [upon me].”

Foundation Scripture for LOJWC Ministry:

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mark 11:23

What We Believe:

We believe in God, the Father, Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. On the third day he rose again according to Scripture. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the God-head, who revealed himself on the day of Pentecost. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit and their continuous operation in the body of Christ. And we believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic church. Amen.

Faith Confession:

We conduct spiritual warfare. It begins with us as we speak God’s word and speak to our bodies, minds, and emotions. Therefore we make a faith confession which says: “Satan, in the Name of Jesus, I declare this body a sickness-disease-free zone. Every germ, virus, bacterium, etc., that touches this body dies instantly in the name of Jesus, who bore my sicknesses, carried my diseases, and by whose stripes I have been healed. Therefore I command life into every cell in this body, I receive healing for my emotions from every past embedded hurtful, fearful memory. I speak active deliverance from the law of sin and death, according to the finished works of Jesus the Christ, the anointed and His anointing.

Types of Prayer, Part 2

There are many different kinds of prayer. Prayer is not one-size-fits all. Last week, we looked at four of eight types of prayer in the Bible. Those were the prayers of faith, agreement, supplication, and thanksgiving. Today, we look at four other types of prayer found in the Bible. First, there is the prayer of worship. The prayer of worship is very similar to thanksgiving, but worship focuses on who God is, while thanksgiving focuses on what God has done. Second, there is the prayer of consecration. It’s when we stop telling God what we want to do, and instead ask what is His plan. We are born for a purpose. He has a purpose for us. The prayer of consecration is one made as we set ourselves apart to follow God’s will. Jesus made this prayer before His crucifixion.

Third, there is the prayer of intercession. There are many times that our prayers include requests for others. In 1 Tim. 2:1, we are told to make intercession for everyone. Jesus serves as our example (John 17). Finally, there is the prayer of imprecation. Ps 7, 55, 69. Used to invoke God’s judgment on the wicked, and thereby avenge the righteous. Jesus teaches us to pray for blessings on our enemies, not cursing (Matthew 5:44–48).

Don’t try to pick a type of prayer. Allow prayer to flow. As you look back on it, you will find that these types were incorporated in your prayer. We approach the throne from our position of authority, seated at the right hand of Jesus (Ephesians 2). These important points are explained in more detail in this message, delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 26, 2020.

1 Timothy 2:11  NKJV
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.

Forgiveness is a tonic that cleanses our souls. (For more on this, listen to the service portion of today’s message.)

Types of Prayer, Part 1

There are many different kinds of prayer. There is the simple petition in Jesus’ name to the heart of love, who is God our Father. There is prevailing prayer that overcomes every obstacle, which finally lands the answer in the harbor of peace. There is battle prayer with tears of agony, it’s intense yearning. There is a quiet prayer of faith, which is barely lifted above a whisper, but with persistent faith that shakes in heaven. Then there’s the prayer without ceasing that seems to perfume every act of the persistent pray-er. There is also the unconscious prayer attitude, as Paul says, praying with all kinds of prayers. Prayer is not one-size-fits all. How desperately our nation and our church needs our prayer!

Of 650 prayers, approximately 450 have recorded answers. The first mention of prayer in the Bible is found in Genesis 4:26. Today’s message focuses on 4 of the 8 main types of prayer that we find in the Bible. The prayer of faith (James 5:14) will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up. The prayer of agreement, known as corporate prayer, is found in Acts 1:14 and 2:42. The prayer of supplication, or requests, is found in Philippians 4:6. A supplicant brings great needs to the throne of grace. Part of winning the spiritual battle is to be praying at all times in the spirit with all prayer and supplications, according to Ephesians 6:18. The prayer of thanksgiving is also mentioned in Phil. 4:6. These important points are explained in more detail in this message, delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 19, 2020.

Join us next week when we look at four other types of prayer found in the Bible. They are the prayer of worship, consecration, intercession, and impartation.

Prayer: Specific or Generic?

Prayer is the portal through which God saves, heals, and blesses humankind. Specific prayer occurs when we target a specific area, guided by the Holy Spirit with scriptures from God’s Word. Prayer is the art of talking to God. It is dialogue, not simply monologue. It is our need crying out for help. It is  an open invitation from the Father to visit Him. God’s heart desires the companionship of His children. Prayer is facing God with man’s need, with God’s promises to meet those needs. (See 1 John 5:14-15.) There is even a template for prayer. Specific prayer targets the situation. Be aware that some prayer can be blocked. That’s why we are called to cleanse the temple. These important points are explained in more detail in this message, delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 12, 2020.

Mark 11:25–26 NKJV
25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

1 John 5:14–15  NKJV
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

And When You Stand Praying

Our words have power. Words have power to replicate after their kind. As we grow in the art of conducting spiritual warfare, we find that it is predicated upon the words we speak. To supplicate means to pray earnestly. James 5:14-15 mentions this kind of prayer. We come alongside someone, lifting their heavy burdens. There are many varieties of sports; they are not played the same way. It’s the same way with prayer. There are different kinds of prayer. One size does not fit all. There are different rules of engagement for different prayers. We must forgive those who have wronged us. It’s not about feelings. Our emotions are a part of us, but should not be our master. Forgiveness is a legal action placed into action by faith, not feelings. Before we pray, we ask Holy Spirit to reveal sin in us. Then we release it to God. There are four things to activate forgiveness. For more insight, listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy for January 5, 2020.

Mark 11:25–26 NKJV
25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Focus Faith

When you pray, believe that you receive! We can’t believe that we receive when we go to God in hope. We are hoping. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Faith is the substance of those things hoped for. “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24 NKJV) When we come into the land where we are focused on the Word of the living God, we focus on being pleasing and acceptable in His sight. We are focused on receiving the promises of God. He didn’t write them just for the words to remain on the book. His Words are healing and health to all who put their trust in Him. We are to live daily by our faith in Jesus. We don’t go to God talking about the problem. We go to God based on His Word to receive the medicine. He already knows the symptoms. “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” (1 John 5:14–15)  For more insight, listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy for December 29, 2019.

He Shall Be Called, Part 2

Isaiah’s prophesy was given to the people of God to give hope—a desperately needed hope—that a child would be born to fulfill the Davidic Covenant. God gave the names he would be called and how he would function. God did this 800 years before the birth of Jesus!!! One name is Everlasting Father. Everlasting Father is a king who provides for and protects His people forever. How could Jesus be called Everlasting Father? For more insight, listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy for December 22, 2019. Another name is Prince of Peace. God is not the author of anxiety and stress and fear. And yet all of those beset us. Jesus brought us peace with God and the peace of God. This child is a true prince, with the right to reign. Jesus fulfilled the role of the ideal King. Let us rejoice as we celebrate the One who was to come, who came and completed His assignment.

Isaiah 9:6 NIV
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 40:28–29 NIV
Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
