Praying the Psalms, Part 1

PRAYING THE PSALMS, PART 1

What does it mean to pray the Psalms? When we pray the Psalms, we’re giving God’s Word back to Him. When we take in the Word and speak it by faith, we are planting life. As we focus on the Psalms and incorporate them in our prayer lives, we are sustaining a spirit of humility; we are seeking God. The Psalms run the gamut of human emotions. When we need inspiration, we can turn to a Psalm. There are five issues we can begin praying about when praying the Psalms: thirsting for God, prayer, petition for help, trusting and resting in God, and thanksgiving. For more insight, listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on January 24, 2021.

Key Scripture
Philippians 4:6–7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Healing–Deliverance Scriptures

Psalm 91:9-10, 14:16

91:10, Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

14:16, Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

Psalm 103:1-5

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good thing; so that thy strength is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 107: 17, 19-21

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities are afflicted.

Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and He saveth them out of all their distresses.

He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.  Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Psalm 118:17

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

This is also a part of praying the Psalms, because when we use them consistently, we can repeat them from memory.

Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!

Foundation Scripture for LOJWC Ministry:

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mark 11:23

What We Believe:

We believe in God, the Father, Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. On the third day he rose again according to Scripture. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the God-head, who revealed himself on the day of Pentecost. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit and their continuous operation in the body of Christ. And we believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic church. Amen.

Faith Confession:

We conduct spiritual warfare. It begins with us as we speak God’s word and speak to our bodies, minds, and emotions. Therefore we make a faith confession which says: “Satan, in the Name of Jesus, I declare this body a sickness-disease-free zone. Every germ, virus, bacterium, etc., that touches this body dies instantly in the name of Jesus, who bore my sicknesses, carried my diseases, and by whose stripes I have been healed. Therefore I command life into every cell in this body, I receive healing for my emotions from every past embedded hurtful, fearful memory. I speak active deliverance from the law of sin and death, according to the finished works of Jesus the Christ, the anointed and His anointing.
