Create in Us Clean Hearts, Part 1

Create in Us Clean Hearts, Part 1

We know that God has a heart, because it states it in Acts 13:22. We know that the human heart in its natural condition is evil, treacherous, and deceitful. We may not understand our own heart, but God does. (See Psalms 44:21, 1 Corinthians 14:25,  John 2:24-25, Jeremiah 17:9-10, Mark 7:21-23.)

Our biggest problem is not external, but internal. All of us have a heart problem. What is the heart, as referred to in Psalm 51 and other parts of God’s Word? It has caused confusion when we don’t understand the intended meaning of the heart in these passages. What is the difference between soul and spirit? The book of Genesis explains that God breathed the breath of life into man and he became a living soul. The word soul can refer to the whole person, whether in life on earth or the afterlife. Human beings have a sin nature, which taints our spirit. There is a connection between the spirit of a person and the soul of a person. The soul of a person sees into the spirit of that person. The soul feeds into the spirit. Before a person is born again, the spirit of a person receives all input from the soul. The heart is the place where the spirit and the soul meet, that is, where the two connect.

When David admitted his guilt and cried out to God to renew in him a clean spirit, he knew that only God could create a clean spirit in him. That’s something we need to know. Just as the things we eat go into our stomach, so the things that enter our mind go into our spirit and make it unclean. When we realize that, we can come to a place of repentance. We can, like David, cry out to God for cleansing. “Create in me a clean heart.” Let that be the cry of our hearts today. For more insight, listen to this message delivered by Dr. Dowdy on March 29, 2020.

Foundation Scripture for LOJWC Ministry:

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mark 11:23

What We Believe:

We believe in God, the Father, Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. On the third day he rose again according to Scripture. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the God-head, who revealed himself on the day of Pentecost. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit and their continuous operation in the body of Christ. And we believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic church. Amen.

Faith Confession:

We conduct spiritual warfare. It begins with us as we speak God’s word and speak to our bodies, minds, and emotions. Therefore we make a faith confession which says: “Satan, in the Name of Jesus, I declare this body a sickness-disease-free zone. Every germ, virus, bacterium, etc., that touches this body dies instantly in the name of Jesus, who bore my sicknesses, carried my diseases, and by whose stripes I have been healed. Therefore I command life into every cell in this body, I receive healing for my emotions from every past embedded hurtful, fearful memory. I speak active deliverance from the law of sin and death, according to the finished works of Jesus the Christ, the anointed and His anointing.
